WE TEST FOR:
Carotid Artery Stenosis
(Stroke Risk)
The carotid arteries of the neck are the main supply of blood from the heart to the brain. Build-up of plaque (atherosclerosis) can partially or completely block these arteries. If severe enough, this blockage can significantly increase the risk for stroke. For more information go to
http://www.vascularweb.org/
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
(AAA)
The abdominal aorta is the largest artery in the body carrying blood from the heart to the abdomen, pelvis and legs. Over time, the walls of this artery can become weakened and the pressure caused by the blood being pumped through results in ballooning. A large aneurysm in the aorta can rupture, which is often fatal. For more information go to

Peripheral Arterial Disease
(PAD)
Arterial blockage from plaque build-up can also develop in the arteries of the legs and result in decreased blood flow. This can affect the ability to walk and in severe cases can result in an increased risk of amputation. For more information go to

SHOULD I BE SCREENED? How It’s Done:
AAA and Carotid Artery Screening
These tests are quick and painless and take less than 10 minute each. You will lie on your back on an exam table as the vascular sonographer applies gel to your abdomen and/or neck area to acquire images and asses blood flow.
For the abdominal screening test (AAA) we ask that you do not eat or drink 6 hours prior to your test appointment. You may take your medications with water. For the carotid artery (stroke) screening test, there is no preparation needed, just wear a loose open collar or no collar shirt (no turtlenecks).
PAD Screen
For this you will lie on your back on an exam table. The vascular sonographer will use a blood pressure cuffs and a special Doppler probe to measure the pressures in the arteries of the arms and the ankles. A mathematical calculation of the pressures will suggest the presence or absence of significant arterial blockage.
All ultrasound imaging is performed by highly skilled and trained ultrasound technologists registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). All screening tests are performed in accordance with the latest medical literature recommendations for categorization of normal and abnormal results. Individuals are urged to share their results with their primary care physician who can then manage any further treatment if necessary.
All screening exams are performed using state-of-the-art Doppler color flow ultrasound systems.
All of our studies are reviewed and interpreted by board certified physicians. These physicians work closely with us to ensure that our quality is kept to the highest standard. Results are mailed directly to the customer within 4 days of the exam.
